Mysterious Journey II Hints

What do I do with the machine near the platforms?

  • 1 of 23: The buttons on the top of the machine will turn the machine -- and aim it at one of the platforms (on top of the columns in the water).  The blue button on the right will shoot a blue ball of light, which makes the platform it hits rise up.  The red button shoots a red ball of light, which resets all the platforms to their starting position.
  • 2 of 23: Pay attention to how much each platform rises up with each press of the button.  Each platform reacts exactly the same as the other platforms when hit with a blue ball of light.
  • 3 of 23: Immediately after resetting the platforms, the first colored ball always raises the platform one step up.
  • 4 of 23: The second colored ball always raises any platform that it hits two steps up, the third raises any platform that it hits three steps up, etc.  The amount that a platform rises will increase progressively by one.  If a platform reaches its maximum height, it will stop at the maximum, regardless of how many times it should have moved on that turn.
  • 5 of 23: You'll need to pay close attention to how high each platform can go up, before it reaches its maximum height.  You can either count how many times each platform lifts up, or you can pay attention to how high the platforms are when they start and count the number of extra lines (on the posts) exposed under each platform.
  • 6 of 23: Have you tried to raise all the platforms to their maximum height, then tried to cross the bridge that the platforms make?
  • 7 of 23: You wouldn't be able to cross the bridge; because, at their maximum height, the platforms are one step too tall.
  • 8 of 23: You'll have to figure out how much each platform needs to be raised to make it usable as a bridge.
  • 9 of 23: The maximum height of the first platform (on the left) is 13.  This is one notch too high, so the platform must stop after rising exactly 12 steps.
  • 10 of 23: The second platform needs to be raised 11 notches; the third 12 notches; and the one on the far right needs to be raised 10 notches.
  • 11 of 23: If you add up the total number of notches (for all four platforms) you could figure out how many times you'd need to press the blue button to accomplish this.
  • 12 of 23: The total number for all four platforms is 45 (12+11+12+10).  You'd have to press the blue button 9 times to lift the platforms 45 notches (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9=45).
  • 13 of 23: All you have to do now is figure out which platforms to aim at, in what order.  For example, if one platform needed to be raised by four steps -- you would either have to aim the first and third shots at that platform, or hit it with the fourth shot, since those would be the only combinations that would allow you to lift the platform to the correct height.
  • 14 of 23: Since the maximum amount a platform will be able to rise with a single shot is nine, but each platform needs to raised more than nine -- it is obvious that you'll need to hit each platform at least twice to make it rise the correct amount.
  • 15 of 23: It is helpful to work it out on a piece of paper.  On the left of the paper mark down all the numbers from 1 through 9; on the right, mark down the amounts that the platforms will need to be raised.  Add together the numbers in the left column in such a way that they total the numbers in the right column -- using the numbers from 1 through 9 only once each.
  • 16 of 23: Three of the platforms will need to be hit by two blue balls of light.  One will need to be hit by three.
  • 17 of 23: It's more difficult to place the largest numbers, so be careful to work them in early.
  • 18 of 23: The platform on the far left will need to be raised by 12 notches.  That could be accomplished by raising it 4 notches, then 8 notches; it could also be done by raising it 3 notches, then 9 notches; or it could even be done by combining three (or more) shots using lower numbers.
  • 19 of 23: Let's try raising it by 4 notches, then by 8 notches.  In other words, you'll have to be careful to aim the machine at the far left platform when it needs to be pressed the fourth time, and the eighth time.
  • 20 of 23: The second platform needs to be raised 11 notches.  That can be accomplished by raising it 2 notches, then by 9 notches.
  • 21 of 23: The third platform also needs to be raised 12 notches -- first 5, then 7.
  • 22 of 23: The far right platform needs to be raised 10 notches -- 1, 3, and 6.
  • 23 of 23: Reset the puzzle before beginning.  You need to hit the platforms with the blue ball in this order (platforms are numbered from left to right): platform four (rises 1x), platform two (rises 2x), platform four (rises 3x), platform one (rises 4x), platform three (rises 5x), platform four (rises 6x), platform three (rises 7x), platform one (rises 8x), and platform two (rises 9x).
