About the Optional Quests
The "Optional Quests" have been labelled as such because, strictly speaking, you do not need to complete them to finish the game. They are, however, worth valuable gold and experience points, and you will more than likely need to complete at least some of these to build up your parties. My personal advice is that you take a few of the starter quests given to you in New Sorpigal, then start to move on to the so-called Promotion and Essential Quests. If you find yourself having a hard time on any of those, you can always return to some of the Optional Quests.
I've listed the worth in gold pieces (GP) and experience pieces (XP), as well as any other reward, for each of the quests. (These are based on my own notes and may not be 100% accurate, since they may depend on factors for which I haven't accounted.) These rewards should help you determine whether a quest is worth your time. Note, however, that as a general rule, the quests that are tougher to complete, are worth more.
Finally, note that the quests are listed by the location where they are assigned -- not where the tasks are actually performed.
