Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor Hints
How do I kill Tolberti or Robert?
of 8: In case you don't have the Identify Monster skill at Grand Master level, he is immune to Mind, Light, and Dark Magics, and is resistant to all of the rest. Tolberti/Robert also has an armor class of 80 and 880 HP. His attack does 5d5 HP of Earth damage (which means he can do anywhere from 5 to 25 HP per attack). He can also cast Hour of Power and Power Cure.
of 8: Although it's not noted in the Identify Monster information, Tolberti also has an attack that can eradicate characters.
of 8: Of course, all the usual combat tips apply. Cast any protective and statistic-enhancing spells that you have, especially Earth Resistance (or Day or Protection) and Grand Master Protection from Magic.
of 8: If you have the appropriate protective spells cast, Tolberti/Robert actually can't do all that much damage. Just make sure to keep that Protection from Magic spell running, and remember that it only protects you against one attack per level of Body Magic skill unless you re-cast it.
of 8: You can also find a few spell scrolls in a chest in an upstairs area overlooking the main room, if you need some extra help.
of 8: The main problem that I ran into against Tolberti/Robert was his Power Cure. That is, he didn't do all that much damage to me, but I also couldn't always do enough damage against his Power Cure. Make sure that you keep attacking constantly once you get involved in the fight -- so have all of your spells active before starting to fight him.
of 8: I just let my fighters do their usual attacks (with Heroism, Haste, and Hammerhands all cast) and then cast as high-level offensive spells (like Incinerate, Implosion, or Mass Distortion) with my spellcasters as often as possible. A good supply of high-level blue potions or Divine Power white Potions to restore spell points as needed comes in very handy. Just don't waste your time with weak potions, because Tolberti/Robert can heal himself fairly quickly if you have to use a lot of small potions to keep up your magical attacks.
of 8: If you're having problems, you can always try exiting and coming back. Tolberti/Robert's resistances mean that a single spell attack can do either 1 HP or 100 HP of damage, depending on your luck. So if you can't kill him one time, coming back later and trying it again may work. Of course, you'll need to rest, and he will have a chance to heal as well, but a little luck may be all you need. If that still fails, try solving other quests first to build up your party.
