Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor Hints
Archer to Warrior Mage
of 8: You get this quest from Steagal Snick in his home in the town of Spaward in Avlee. He sends you to trap the medusas on the bottom level of the Red Dwarf Mines by putting a broken belt on the lift controls.
of 8: You can find the Red Dwarf Mines in the Bracada Desert, at map position (20925, 14792).
of 8: Go through the western archway on the northern wall of the first room you enter in the mines and follow the passageway to find the lift.
of 8: The belt for the lift is actually nowhere near the lift itself.
of 8: Listen for some sound cues if you want to try to find the controls.
of 8: Once you're on the lower level, head to the far east and find the machine at (18241, 11769). Clicking on the machine with the character who has the bad belt is all you need to repair it.
of 8: You should then head back to the lift and take it back up before you get trapped. Although you may want to fight the medusas on the way to the belt, you don't have much time to fight them on the way back.
of 8: It is fairly easy to run past the medusas, although they still may hit a few arrows to paralyze or stone your party members. If they do, you may want to use the Cure Paralysis (white) or Stone to Flesh (black) potions available around the mines -- having all of your characters paralyzed or turned to stone will effectively kill your party, even if you have hit points to spare.
