Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor Hints
How can I use the Scroll to decode the message?
1 of 7: Stephan Sand told you that the third word on the Scroll was the key, but you need to figure out how the cipher works.
2 of 7: If you go to visit his next-door neighbor, she will tell you that there's a reference on ciphers in the castle library.
3 of 7: She's not talking about Castle Gloaming, though.
4 of 7: Try the library in Castle Harmondale. Archibald Ironfist will build you one after you've completed the Breeding Zone quest.
5 of 7: You can find the scroll that you need on the second floor above the main hall at (-4296, 903).
6 of 7: Basically, subtract the third word ("pattern") from the message on the coded scroll, letter by letter. The scroll in Castle Harmondale gives you an example of how to subtract the key word from the original message. When subtracting one letter from another, I found it easiest to turn the letters into numbers ("A" is 1, "Z" is 26), and then subtract the two numbers. Then, turn the number back into a letter the same way -- and add 26 if the number is less than 1. If you need the full message, read ahead.
7 of 7: "I have found the tomb of Master Kelwin and have deduced the code from his notes. It is north east south west and center. My job is done and the debt paid. Good luck."
