Might and Magic IX Hints
How do I get past the chessboard puzzle in the SE room?
1 of 6: Note that the chess pieces can move in the same patterns as their counterparts in real-life chess.
2 of 6: You don't want to give them an opportunity to remove you from the board (i.e., toss you in the water with the Sea Monsters).
3 of 6: Here's a drawing that shows a safe route across the board, assuming the pieces are all in their original positions when you start across (which they will be if you haven't gotten knocked off the board by any of them yet).
4 of 6: Note that one of the squares you have to tread on has a chess piece on it. Just squeeze past it as best you can.
5 of 6: On the other side are two black chests (Lock Difficulty of 24, as usual in here). The one on the right is the one you need to open to get the maze key.
6 of 6: And do watch out for Njam. He always teleports in when you're going for something as important as this key is.
