Might and Magic IX Hints
Tech Tips
1 of 4: If the game keeps crashing every few minutes, try going under the video options and unchecking things like "Detailed Textures," "Light Map," and "Shadows." That solved the only crash problem I had when I played. If it doesn't help you, then read the troubleshooting tips in the README.TXT file that's on both the CD and in the install directory for MM9.
2 of 4: On a related note, the game can hang if you're in turn-based combat mode when it tries to start a cut scene movie.
3 of 4: I've heard that editing the game's AUTOEXEC.CFG file to change "BitDepth" "16" to "BitDepth" "32" can improve the visuals somewhat, but I never noticed much difference on my system.
4 of 4: You can also search AUTOEXEC.CFG to find "ScreenWidth" "800" and "ScreenHeight" "600", but the game was made to run in 800 by 600 mode, and altering those values can cause things to be drawn on the screen incorrectly.
