As I approached a book on a pedestal, I was dropped into a pit trap!
1 of 3: You gotta watch out for those kinds of things.
2 of 3: If you do fall into the trap and don't want to restore your save, then run down the tunnel connecting to the trap and attack the wall at the end of the tunnel to break through.
3 of 3: As for the book, you could approach it safely by moving around the perimeter of the trap, but using it will only get you a useless message.
