The Secret of Monkey Island Hints

Method One (Frying Ants)

  • 1 of 17: How would you normally fry ants on the sidewalk?  (Author's Note: The author neither condones ant frying nor takes responsibility for any ants fried after the reading of this hint.)
  • 2 of 17: With a magnifying glass.
  • 3 of 17: Now, you don't have a magnifying glass.
  • 4 of 17: But you have the next best thing...
  • 5 of 17: A spyglass (i.e. telescope).
  • 6 of 17: Herman Toothrot has a spyglass.
  • 7 of 17: He keeps it in his house.
  • 8 of 17: The spyglass is inside.
  • 9 of 17: Just pick it up.  (If Herman Toothrot is inside, you may have to exit the fort and then re-enter.)
  • 10 of 17: Now you can't use the whole telescope to make a spark.
  • 11 of 17: You have to use a certain part of it.
  • 12 of 17: Its lens.
  • 13 of 17: Somehow you have to remove the lens from the telescope.
  • 14 of 17: You can do this with one of your basic interface commands.
  • 15 of 17: Open the telescope to retrieve its lens.
  • 16 of 17: So how do you create an explosion to blow up the dam?
  • 17 of 17: Use the lens with the gunpowder placed on the dam to create an explosion.
