The Curse of Monkey Island Hints

1 of 12: You need to beat him in a duel.
2 of 12: First, you must find a proper way of challenging him.
3 of 12: Don't even try a pistol duel -- he will beat you every time.
4 of 12: You do have another option among the weapons, though.
5 of 12: Try dueling banjos.
6 of 12: Pick up the banjo, and then watch what van Helgen does.
7 of 12: He will stop playing every once in a while to play a single note.
8 of 12: You need to copy his notes, in the order he plays them, whenever it is your turn. Guybrush will pause his tune to give you a chance to enter the notes.
9 of 12: Once you've played a few tunes correctly, van Helgen will still outplay you. But you can find another way to beat him.
10 of 12: You can't win a fair fight, so forget about fighting fire with fire.
11 of 12: Just fire.
12 of 12: Get one of the pistols and shoot his banjo. Van Helgen will appreciate your dishonesty and agree to sign on for your crew.
