Escape from Monkey Island Hints
How do I get Jojo's hat?
of 8: Ask him, and he'll tell you how.
of 8: You need to beat him in Monkey Kombat. Ask him to explain the rules to you.
of 8: He's too good for you now, so you'll need to practice on the little monkeys running around just outside the village. Just run into them on the overhead map and then talk to them to start a round of Monkey Kombat.
of 8: There are five possible stances you can assume in Monkey Kombat: the Anxious Ape, the Bobbing Baboon, the Charging Chimp, the Gimpy Gibbon, and the Drunken Monkey. Each stance beats two others. You need to learn what beats what.
of 8: Also, you need to learn the sequence of insults to convert from one stance to another (a combination of "eek," "ack," "oop," and "chee"). Note that the combinations work both ways. (The combo to move from Drunken Monkey to Anxious Ape is the same as the one to go from Anxious Ape to Drunken Monkey.) Use the arrow keys to use an insult -- you'll see a legend on your screen.
of 8: These are all random, so you'll have to figure them out on your own. When you're fighting other monkeys, write down the combos they use, as well as the two stances that each stance beats. If you want to remain in your current stance, say any command 3 times. It may also help to use a chart like this one.
of 8: Monkeys with tougher sounding names (such as "brawny monkey") are harder to beat than ones with weaker sounding names (such as "timid monkey"). Tougher monkeys also know more moves, so you can learn more from them.
of 8: After you've beaten at least three or four monkeys, you'll be ready to take on Jojo. (He won't let you fight him until you're ready.) Jojo will put up a good fight, but he'll slip up towards the end.
