Escape from Monkey Island Hints
How can I use Jumbo's parrots to find the treasure?
of 15: Talk to Jumbo about them.
of 15: You'll find out that one of them always lies and one always tells the truth. You can use this knowledge to help you find the treasure.
of 15: First, though, you'll need some way to call the parrots away from Tiny.
of 15: By asking them a question with an obvious answer, you can find out which one is which. Unfortunately, they switch around after you ask them a question, so you don't know which is which any more.
of 15: You need some way to mark one of the parrots so you'll be able to tell them apart.
of 15: Maybe you could give them something that affects their behavior.
of 15: Perhaps some sort of drink?
of 15: There are a couple of different drinks you can give one of the parrots. One would make a bird hyper.
of 15: This drink is the coffee from Starbuccaneer's.
of 15: This drink is the Grog, Jr. from the Micro-Groggery. Just walk up to the bartender and ask for some.
of 15: Give a drink to one of the birds, then ask him something obvious.
of 15: Now, when the birds return, you'll know which one tells the truth (the marked one or the unmarked one, depending on its answer to your obvious question).
of 15: Keep asking the parrot which direction you should go to get to the correct rock.
of 15: Eventually, he'll tell you that you have to go "nowhere". This means you've found the right rock.
