The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Hints
Misc. Tips
1 of 6: As mentioned in some of the other tip sections, it's very important to remember to let your fatigue bar fully regenerate before attempting any kind of skill-related action, including combat, spellcasting, lockpicking, buying and selling, training, persuading someone's disposition up, enchanting items, etc. Having a less than full fatigue bar will greatly increase prices and decrease chances of success at things like spells and sword-swinging.
2 of 6: When you have a magic scroll or a "Cast When Used" enchanted item, the best way to use it is to press F1 to bring up the quick menu and choose to assign it to one of the quick keys (1 thru 9). After clicking on a slot, click on "magic menu item." It'll give you a list of your powers, the spells you can cast, and your magic items. Go down to the bottom of the list to find all scrolls and "Cast When Used" items listed. After assigning a magic item to a slot, you can press the number key for that slot while playing to equip the item and prepare to cast its spell. (The actual casting isn't done until you hit the Use key, which is the left mouse button on the PC.)
3 of 6: Keep all of the cheap little enchanted items you find in random treasure that restore a bit of health when used. You'll probably get several during your earliest explorations and bandit cave raids. They can't totally replace healing potions, but can be very useful when you run out of potions. Also, they're never used up entirely like potions are, but slowly recharge over time. (See the above tip about using "Cast When Used" enchanted items for details on how to use these items.)
4 of 6: Instead of paying smithies to repair your armor and weapons all the time, train your Armorer skill up to 20 or so and get a bunch of armorer's hammers and/or repair tongs. You can get a lot of journeyman's armorer hammers from the Fighters Guild equipment chests once you join that guild. Then you can repair your own stuff and practice your Armorer skill at the same time!
5 of 6: If you ever find the game to be too easy or too hard, bring up the "Prefs" section of the options menu and adjust the difficulty slider. It affects how much damage you give and take, and ranges from -100 (way easy) to +100 (way hard). Note that this capability was added in an early patch.
6 of 6: The game's music for exploration and battle is stored in the form of standard MP3 files in subdirectories under the "Data Files\Music" directory in your Morrowind install directory. You can copy in your own favorite MP3 tunes in order to hear them while playing the game as long as you replace the old files with your new ones without changing the filenames at all. I always like to spice up the battle music with some of my favorites from other games. (You can also put MP3 files in the "Music" directory and then use the PC Cheat Codes' "streammusic" command to play them.)
