Teleporting Others Around
  • To teleport an NPC, creature, or other item, use the "position" command instead of "positioncell." The format of the "position" command is pretty much the same except that the Cell_ID on the end is totally ignored, so it might as well not be used. The format is then: position X,Y,Z,Zrot. To teleport another person or item with "position," you must first select them so their internal codename is on the console window's title bar. Then type your "position" command with coordinates and facing (the Zrot) filled in, as in the following example:

    position 132,-77,42,188

The object that you chose will be teleported to the coordinates that you gave, but note that it will be in the same region. Adding a Cell_ID on the end in an attempt to teleport your target to another region won't do any good. You can only teleport other things and people to different coordinates within the same region. Fortunately, the entire outdoors counts as one region with one coordinate system, and you can take advantage of that in many cases, especially in quests where you're escorting a weak character across a long distance.

After they join you, take them outside if you're not already outside, then talk to them and tell them to wait there. Then use the "position" command to teleport them to your destination (using the Map Positional Coordinates sections in each region of this hint file to help get the right XYZ coords), or as close to your destination as you can get using outdoor coordinates. Then use "positioncell" to take yourself there and get the person to rejoin you. This process won't totally eliminate the journey in most cases, but it will help tremendously.

"Position" can also be used to eliminate any pesky obstacles in any area. Just select the item or monster to be eliminated and use the "position" command to teleport it to another part of the region you're in (preferably somewhere outside the traversible area, like 99999,99999,99999,0). Why, you could take an entire city or dungeon apart piece by piece! Just remember that if you totally wreck an area, the only way to restore it is to restore a saved game from before you wrecked it. (You could use the "disable" command on things instead of "position," but that doesn't allow access through disabled doors, walls, etc. They're invisible, but still solid.)
