The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Hints
Gateway Ghost
of 13: Talk to Angaredhel in the lobby of the Gateway Inn about "work" and "Gateway haunting" to get this quest.
of 13: It seems that a room in the South Wing is haunted by a ghost that just keeps coming back.
of 13: You can go to the South Wing and find the room with the ghost in it, but "killing" the thing won't help. You need to find out who keeps sending it back.
of 13: Angaredhel mentioned someone named Arara Uvulas who tried and failed to exorcise the ghost earlier, so why not ask her about it?
of 13: She's one of the "Mouths" in the Telvanni Council House just NW of the city. Go there and enter the council chamber to find her.
of 13: Talk to her about "Gateway haunting" and she'll say that it's probably being done by someone who's a Conjuration expert.
of 13: Sounds like a mage or wizard of some kind, so go to the Mages Guild in Wolverine Hall and ask about "Conjuration expert."
of 13: The guilty one is Uleni Heleran, and you can make her confess by raising her disposition to 50 (or just 40 if you're a member of the Mages Guild, Fighters Guild, Imperial Legion, or Imperial Cult).
of 13: She agrees to stop it and gives you a silly parody of the local hospitality papers to give to Angaredhel.
of 13: Go talk to him about "work" again to get a list of choices as to what to tell him.
of 13: The first choice of not mentioning Heleran's name just flat-out doesn't work -- the game will do nothing if you click on it. As for the other two choices, the only difference is whether or not you give him the dumb paper Heleran gave you, and that doesn't really matter.
of 13: You'll get a +1 to your Reputation and be given the choice of three different enchanted rings. Pick whichever one will enhance the type of attributes you most need to enhance.
of 13: But that's not all! You can also now talk to any Telvanni in the area about "Gateway haunting" repeatedly to add 20 to his disposition each time (if it's less than 70). Be sure to pump it up for any Telvanni merchants you want to do business with.
