The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Hints

Become the Great House Redoran Hortator.

  • 1 of 10: To become Hortator of a Great House, you have to get every councilor of that house to agree to vote for you. For Redoran, you need votes from:

        Athyn Sarethi in his manor
        Miner Arobar in the Manor Bedrooms in his manor
        Garisa Llethri in the Private Quarters in her manor
        Brara Morvayn in the Morvayn Quarters in the Redoran Council Hall
        Hlaren Ramoran in the Private Quarters of his manor
        Bolvyn Venim in the Private Quarters of his manor

    (All locations are in Ald'ruhn's Manor District.)
  • 2 of 10: Find each councilor and talk to him about "Redoran Hortator."
  • 3 of 10: Start by talking to Sarethi. If you're a member of House Redoran, he'll instantly agree to support you and convince everyone but Venim to also support you. If you're not a member of House Redoran, you'll have to rescue his son first.
  • 4 of 10: Once you have Sarethi's support, go talk to Arobar, Llethri, Morvayn, and Ramoran to get their votes without any complications or details to deal with.
  • 5 of 10: However, that bowl of venim, Bolvyn Venim, is a major complicated detail to deal with. He won't support you for Hortator no matter what.
  • 6 of 10: To get rid of him, gain everyone else's support and then go talk to him. He'll challenge you to a duel in the Arena in Vivec.
  • 7 of 10: The next time you travel to Vivec and enter the Arena Pit, Venim will appear down in the fighting area unless you have other duels pending.
  • 8 of 10: He's an extremely tough opponent in melee combat, but he has no ranged attacks of any kind. You could enter the Arena Pit from one of its outside doors to end up on its upper level, from which you could look down at Venim and shoot him with arrows and/or spells.
  • 9 of 10: There's another good way to deal with him if you have the Black Hands Dagger from finishing Eno Hlaalu's Special Duties for the Morag Tong faction. Cast the Levitate spell, swoop down on Venim and slash him once with the Black Hands Dagger, then levitate quickly back out of range. If he doesn't fall over after a few seconds, repeat until he does.
  • 10 of 10: Loot his body to get a full suit of ebony armor and a Daedric dai-katana, then return to Athyn Sarethi to be named Redoran Hortator and receive the Ring of the Hortator. He'll also give you a note from Tholer Saryoni and a public notice declaiming you as an Imperial spy. (But then, you are, aren't you?)
