Getting Stuff
- To format of the "placeatpc" command is placeatpc name 1,1,1. Replace the word "name" with the internal codename of the item, monster type, or NPC that you wish to create, and it'll appear right next to you on the ground. For instance, to make yourself a copy of the Robe of St. Roris, type:
placeatpc "robe of st roris" 1,1,1
Just look down and pick up the robe, and it's yours!
The three 1's that follow the "name" portion of the command represent quantity, distance, and direction, respectively. If you want to create more than one of an item or creature at a time, change the first 1 to the quantity that you want. As for distance, you have to make it a fairly big number (300 or more) to get it to be any real distance away from you. Direction is simply 0 for in front of you, 1 for behind you, 2 for left of you, and 3 for right of you. For instance, let's say you wanted to summon up two shiny Golden Saint opponents to fight. To get them to appear a short distance in front of you, you'd type:
placeatpc "golden saint" 2,400,0
You can also summon up copies of NPC characters, though this is rarely useful unless you're fighting a game glitch. For instance, if you kill off Bolvyn Venim early in the game and later discover that you're stuck on the Redoran Hortator main quest, you can type:
placeatpc "Bolvyn Venim" 1,100,0
That'll get you a Venim to deal with, though fixing the quest is a bit more complicated than just doing that. Note that if one NPC is angry at you because you killed a second (different) NPC, simply re-summoning the second NPC may not fix the problem -- as the game may be using an internal "dead count" variable, which is not affected with the "placeatpc" command. There's no easy way to fix the "dead count" short of reloading a suitable saved game -- one of many reasons why you should always save your game into different save slots as you go through the game, instead of constantly overwriting the same saved game over and over again.
The bad news is that the internal names of many items and people are inobvious and unguessable (such as "daedric dagger_mtas" for the Black Hands Dagger). All of the object data is stored in the file MORROWIND.ESM in the "Data Files" directory under the Morrowind directory. You can use the TES Construction Set to view a list of all items and their internal names.
Here are some lists of powerful items that you can use, including quest items. Remember to put the item's internal name in the "name" slot in the "placeatpc" command to get it. (And put quotes around the name if it has any spaces or apostrophes in it.)- Great Weapons
- Great Armor
- Secret Master Tools
- Other Great Items
- Rare and Unique Quest Items
- The Creeper and the Mudcrab Merchant
There's another command called "additem" that can be used to give you any item in the game. The only advantage it has over "placeatpc" is that it's much easier to give yourself large amounts of gold coins with "additem." For instance, to give yourself 32,000 gold in one shot, type:
player->additem gold_100 32000
Unfortunately, the number can only go up to 32,768, so to give yourself a million bucks, you'd have to use the above command a bunch of times in a row. Also note that "additem" places items directly into your inventory instead of on the ground, so you don't have to pick them up. (This also means that you shouldn't ever use "additem" to conjure up anything that isn't an inventory item.)
A related command to "additem" is "addsoulgem." It can be used to give yourself a pre-charged soul gem of any type with any soul. Below are some examples. (Note that the third one will only work if you have Tribunal installed.)
addsoulgem "golden saint" misc_soulgem_grand
addsoulgem vivec_god misc_soulgem_grand
addsoulgem almalexia misc_soulgem_grand
