The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Hints

Grandmaster Duel

  • 1 of 8: Speak to Vantinius about "advancement" and "duel" after being promoted to Knight of the Garland to get this quest.
  • 2 of 8: He says there can be only one, and he'd rather die than retire.
  • 3 of 8: So go to the Arena and fight him in a duel to the death.
  • 4 of 8: Enter the Arena's Waistworks area and find a door that leads to the Arena Pit. (Or enter the outside door to the Arena Pit and hop down into the actual pit area.)
  • 5 of 8: If you have no other duels pending, Vantinius will appear and attack the moment you enter the pit.
  • 6 of 8: He'll be wearing the Lord's Mail and wielding Chrysamere, making him one of the toughest opponents in the game.
  • 7 of 8: TIP: Try levitating out of his range and hitting him with ranged attacks, or using the Black Hands Dagger you can get from finishing Eno Hlaalu's quests for the Morag Tong faction.
  • 8 of 8: If you manage to beat him, you can take the Lord's Mail and Chrysamere for your own, and you will immediately become the Knight of the Imperial Dragon on Vvardenfell.
