The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Hints

Kill the Ash Vampires

  • 1 of 6: There are seven super-powerful Dagoth high priests in the game that are blood kin to Dagoth Ur, and look a whole lot like him. They're called Ash Vampires, and are much more powerful than the other two types of Dagoth (Ash Ghouls and Ascended Sleepers).
  • 2 of 6: Each of the Ash Vampires has a terrific artifact on him that can be used to cast powerful protective spells. You'll probably want to get at least a few of these items before you confront Dagoth Ur in his citadel.
  • 3 of 6: The one furthest away from Red Mountain is Dagoth Araynys, who's in the Mamaea base at location 14 on the Maar Gan map. He's also the toughest, and you may not be able to beat him. If you can, you'll get the Soul Ring from him.
  • 4 of 6: The other six Ash Vampires are in citadels and bases within the Ghostfence. They are:

Dagoth Uthol with the Belt of Heartfire in Charma's Breath
(location 9 on the Dagoth Ur map)
Dagoth Endus with the Amulet of Heartrime in Endusal
(location 5 on the Ghostgate map)
Dagoth Tureynul with the Amulet of Heartthrum in Tureynulal
(location 14 on the Dagoth Ur map)
Dagoth Odros with the Amulet of Heartfire in Odrosal
(location 6 on the Ghostgate map)
Dagoth Vemyn with the Amulet of Heartheal in Vemynal
(location 10 on the Dagoth Ur map)
Dagoth Gilvoth with the Blood Ring in Dagoth Ur's citadel
(location 13 on the Dagoth Ur map)
  • 5 of 6: You'll meet Odros and Vemyn while going after Keening and Sunder, and Gilvoth while going after Dagoth Ur, so you can just incorporate your visits with them into the last two parts of the Citadels quest.
  • 6 of 6: NOTE: It can be amusing to enter an Ash Vampire citadel with a powerful Chameleon effect on you so that none of the monsters will be able to initiate combat. That way, you can talk to a lot of them, including the Ash Vampires themselves. You can even get a bottle of ancient Dagoth brandy from Dagoth Endus!
