Death of a Taxman
  • 1 of 14: If you talk to all the people in the Seyda Neen village, several of them will mention that there's a rumor of Processus Vitellius, the local tax collector, going missing.
  • 2 of 14: So find him.
  • 3 of 14: His dead body is lying around a little ways NW of the town (location 1 on the Seyda Neen map).
  • 4 of 14: When you find it, loot it for all it's got.
  • 5 of 14: Then go talk to Socucius Ergalla in his office in the Census and Excise Office building about "murder of Processus Vitellius."
  • 6 of 14: You can keep all the money you got from the body by lying and saying there wasn't any, but that will abort this quest early and lose you the opportunity to earn even more money by finding and executing the murderer. (At least, that's how it was intended. You can always report to Ergalla after doing the next part to get the reward money no matter what you do now.)
  • 7 of 14: If you talk to the people around town about the murder, you'll discover that Thavere in the lighthouse was Vitellius' girlfriend.
  • 8 of 14: Talk to her about the murder and seeing Vitellius get angry, and she'll mention Foryn Gilnith.
  • 9 of 14: Go visit him in his shack in the west central part of town.
  • 10 of 14: When you talk to him about the murder, he confesses, and you have two options.
  • 11 of 14: If you say you understand and won't prosecute him, he'll give you Processus' Ring, which you can give to Thavere as a keepsake (she'll give you two potions that restore health) or sell to Arrille.
  • 12 of 14: However, the best choice is to kill the killer, since you can get Processus' Ring off his body once he's dead, plus loot his shack of everything. You can even sleep in his hammock from now on! (Not to mention the $500 reward you'll get from Ergalla.)
  • 13 of 14: If you can't handle the fight, put it off until later when you've built up your character some more and gotten some better equipment.
  • 14 of 14: Once Gilnith is dead, loot the place. Then go sell stuff you don't want to keep to Arrille, return the ring to Thavere (or sell it), and report success to Ergalla for the reward. What a lucrative quest!
