The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Hints
The Boy Who Would Be Undead
of 8: Ask around in the Ald'ruhn Mages Guild about "latest rumors" to find out about a guy who wants to become a vampire.
of 8: Go talk to Fathasa Llethri in Llethri Manor in Ald'ruhn's Manor District. (She's in her bedroom in the Llethri Manor Bedrooms section.)
of 8: She'll say that her son wants to become a vampire because he thinks it'll bring him power and respect, and she asks you to disillusion the kid.
of 8: Show him that vampires aren't so powerful after all.
of 8: What you need to do is provoke Sanvyn into attacking you, and then just stand there and let him beat up on you.
of 8: Talk to him and taunt him with choice insults until he attacks. (You may have to use the Persuasion dialogue option's Taunt feature a few times, too.)
of 8: Let him knock your health down to half, and he'll decide vampires are a bunch of wimps and give up on the whole idea of becoming one.
of 8: Go back to Fathasa and choose "convinced my son" to get a magic ring that protects against fire damage, which is very useful to vampires due to their increased vulnerability to fire damage.
