The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Hints

Recover the Lord's Mail.

  • 1 of 11: Varus Vantinius is in Duke Vedam Dren's room on the second floor of the Grand Council Chambers in Ebonheart (Vivec region). He'll give you these last few quests after you've reached the rank of Knight Protector.
  • 2 of 11: The first one involves finding and returning some terrific enchanted armor called Lord's Mail.
  • 3 of 11: Vantinius gives you a key to the Imperial Shrine room, so go to the Imperial Commission (there's a door leading there on the Grand Council Chambers' first floor) and check out the shrine.
  • 4 of 11: Carefully examine the walls to find that there's a heavily-locked secret door in one of them.
  • 5 of 11: You can unlock the door if you're a really, really good lockpicker, if you have a scroll of Ekash's Lock Splitter, or if you have a worn Imperial key. You can get such a key from the Remote Shipwreck (location 7 on the Seyda Neen map) or from under a pillow in one of the bedrooms in the Imperial Guard Garrison.
  • 6 of 11: However, you don't really need a key. All there is behind the secret door is an entrance to the Underground Caves area, and you can enter that without a key by leaving the castle and finding the underwater entrance (location 19 on the Vivec map).
  • 7 of 11: However you enter the caves, explore around until you find the guy with the armor. It's hard, but you'll have to kill him to get it.
  • 8 of 11: After taking the Lord's Mail (and the guy's cool Demon Katana), you can leave, or you can stick around and find some extra goodies.
  • 9 of 11: You'll find two Rising Force potions near a campfire. Use them to levitate up and south from the campfire to get to a high-up ledge with a Glass Frostsword stuck in the ground plus more good stuff in containers.
  • 10 of 11: You can also find a crate floating nearby that has a worn Imperial key in it. You don't need the key, but it and the underwater exit from the caves explains how the armor thief was able to sneak into and out of the Imperial Shrine without anyone seeing him.
  • 11 of 11: When you report back to Vantinius, he'll take the Lord's Mail and give you the vastly inferior Duke's Guard Silver Cuirass. (But don't worry; you'll be able to get the Lord's Mail back the hard way in Vantinius' third quest.)
