What's with the whole Master-vs-Magister thing?
1 of 4: This becomes an issue after you're promoted to the rank of Wizard and have finished all of Aryon's quests except the one about becoming the Archmagister.
2 of 4: Talk to Aryon about "advancement" and then "magister."
3 of 4: He'll let you choose whether you want to become a Master, which is a high-ranking but dead-end promotion, or Magister, which allows you to kill off Archmagister Gothren to become the next Archmagister.
4 of 4: There's no reason not to kill Gothren (especially since you'll have to do it on a main quest sometime, anyway), so I say go for the Magister choice, then do the final promo quest.
