Myst III: Exile Hints
How do I reach that platform?
1 of 17: Even though you've never been on that platform, you may have seen it before.
2 of 17: After you solved each of the three puzzles with the crystal balls, or after you press any of the other three buttons, you're shown a brief clip where one part of the missing track came out of the water temporarily.
3 of 17: The ball travels across the missing segments from right to right -- figure out which order of those three puzzles would raise those segments from right to left.
4 of 17: You'd have to press the blue (force field) button, the yellow (balance) button, and finally, the green (rotating rings) button to recreate this order.
5 of 17: That's still not enough. Have you looked at the control panel below the window on the red side of this ship?
6 of 17: You'll see a map of this area, showing you where the balls drop and where they come back into the central building.
7 of 17: And there are nine circles that you can rotate on that panel, each with some pattern of lines on them.
8 of 17: Use the lines to trace out a path between the various entrances and exits.
9 of 17: It also helps to remember the order of puzzles that would raise the segments to the platform in the correct order.
10 of 17: This means you want to start at the bottom of the board -- the blue hexagon corresponds to where the ball drops from the first puzzle.
11 of 17: From there, the ball will travel down the blue track to the bottom left corner of the board.
12 of 17: After that, rotate the pieces on the board to trace out a path from entrance to exit and so on until you reach the red entrance at the top of the board.
13 of 17: You need to go from blue to yellow to green to red.
14 of 17: If you need help figuring out the proper settings for this puzzle, read the next hint.
15 of 17: It helps to start when the puzzle is at its initial settings. If you've already tried solving the puzzle a bit, you can pull the lever below the console to land back in the building and then pull the lever above the video screen to relaunch the ship -- this will reset the circles on the console. From there, numbering the circles:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
click on 2, 3, 5, 5, 7, 8, and 9.
16 of 17: Now, you're ready to head for the red platform.
17 of 17: Push the blue button, and instead of launching a crystal ball, the ship will lower itself, taking you to the platform.
