Myst IV: Revelation Hints

How do I get power to the spider chair?

  • 1 of 16: Sit down in the chair and press the blue button on the right armrest.
  • 2 of 16: Study the control panel that lowers into position.  Do you see some lights activated, along the top?  How many?
  • 3 of 16: What do you think the lights could represent?
  • 4 of 16: The number of lights activated on the chair is the same as the total number of lights activated on the power control panels.
  • 5 of 16: The lights activated on the chair indicate how much power is currently being sent to the chair.
  • 6 of 16: The chair will need a specific amount of power before it can work properly.
  • 7 of 16: The amount of power needed is actually written on the lower left side of the chair's control panel (as seen when you are sitting in it, with the control panel down).
  • 8 of 16: The chair needs exactly 36 units of power.
  • 9 of 16: There are two nearby sources of power.  If you haven't already done so, you may wish to find the two sources of power and work with their related control panels.
  • 10 of 16: Even with both power control panels (with four lights and seven lights) supplying full power, the maximum possible power for those two power stations is 11 units.  It seems that more power is still needed.
  • 11 of 16: You will need to find and use a third control panel, and add that amount of power to the ones the other two panels are producing.  Note: There are several possible power combinations that you can use to arrive at the correct amount of power.  These hints describe one particular solution -- although you may discover others that will also work.
  • 12 of 16: Once you have the third control panel set, you'll need to adjust the settings of one of the two control panels on the main area of Spire.  Note: You may wish to save the game somewhere in the floating palace area, for future reference, before flying the airship back to the main area.
  • 13 of 16: In order to fly the airship to the Floating Palace area (where the third panel is located), one power control panel should have been set to seven units of power, and the other to two units.
  • 14 of 16: Set the third control panel to 29 units.  After setting the third panel, you will have a total of 38 units of power (7 + 2 + 29).
  • 15 of 16: So, since the chair needs only 36 units of power, that means there are two units too many for the chair.  One of the control panels will need to be adjusted to eliminate two units of power being supplied to the chair.
  • 16 of 16: Okay, now it's time to get back to the chair and give it a whirl.
