Myst IV: Revelation Hints

Using the Amulet

  • The Amulet will not be available at the very beginning of the game.  However, it will be available fairly early in the game, after you have progressed through certain events in Tomahna.

The Amulet is a storage of "memories" -- basically, a way to look into the past.  As such, it can be used for several purposes.  Many times throughout the game, there will be places you will visit, where "memories" relating to that particular place have been stored in the Amulet.  These might include thoughts, conversations, or other data, all of which contribute to fleshing out the full story of "Myst IV", what happened to Sirrus and Achenar, how others have been affected, and so on.

The Amulet is also useful as a "conversation reviewer".  At key locations in the game, where previous conversations have taken place, the amulet may turn blue, and clicking on it will cause an audio replay (no accompanying video) of that conversation.

One other use for the Amulet is for reading.  There are many things to read in "Myst IV" -- letters, documents, and especially journals.  For most of them, the amulet will turn blue.  Clicking on the amulet while looking at any of these will cause them to be "read" in the voice of the writer.  I.e., you will hear Achenar, or Yeesha, or Sirrus speak, along with all emotions involved at the time they wrote the words -- a powerful addition to the overall story, and the immersiveness of the game.

You can access the Amulet by right-clicking (to allow the cursor to move freely to the bottom of the screen), and clicking on the Amulet.  However, unlike the Camera or Journal, the Amulet will not always be active.  The only time that it will be enabled is when you are at an area where there is a "memory".  At those points, the amulet will pulse with a blue light, indicating information is available.  Once a "memory" has been played by the amulet, that particular memory will still be available for replay -- however, the amulet will not pulse a bright blue, but will have a faint blue glow instead.

The amulet provides an audible clue whenever you approach an area where there is a "memory" that you have not yet seen.
