Myst IV: Revelation Hints

I give up! Just tell me the answer!

  • 1 of 29: Again, this is a very annoying, and very touchy puzzle.  At the same time, it is a tremendous challenge, and can provide an incredible "high" to solve it on your own.  So unless you truly want to give up, don't read ahead.
  • 2 of 29: The only way to provide a solution to this puzzle is to make sure that the puzzle is "reset" -- i.e., that you are at a fixed starting point.  If you do not have a game save right before beginning the puzzle that you can reload, then leave the tree house, walk back up the path (the way you came from -- back to the lake house), enter the lake house, then turn around and come back to the tree house.  Now save a game at this point, which you can refer to again later.
  • 3 of 29: Label the small Mangree enclosures from one through five (left to right), and label the five Mangrees A through D (as they are positioned when they are first found in their enclosures).  When the puzzle has just been reset, the four enclosures on the left will be full, and the enclosure on the far right will be empty.
  • 4 of 29: In their starting positions, the first Mangree on the left "A" is the one with one ear up, one down; the next one; "B" has two ears standing straight up; the one in the middle enclosure "C" is the one with flop ears; and the one on the right (fourth enclosure) is the white Mangree.  Follow along with which Mangree is supposed to move each time.  That way, if you're having trouble calling a name, and the wrong one moves over, you will know it immediately.
  • 5 of 29: Your first goal is to get the white Mangree into the enclosure on the far left.
  • 6 of 29: To do this, you'll need to call Mangree B (from the second enclosure).  He will open the enclosure and run on the vine to enclosure 5.
  • 7 of 29: The name for Mangree B can be called with a long, high tone (1.5 seconds on the right wheel); followed by a short, medium tone (0.5 seconds on the middle wheel).
  • 8 of 29: Next, call Mangree C (from the third enclosure).  He will open his enclosure and run on the vine to enclosure 2.
  • 9 of 29: Mangree C can be called with a short medium tone (0.5 seconds on the middle wheel), followed by a short low tone (0.5 seconds on the left wheel).
  • 10 of 29: Call Mangree D (from the enclosure 4).  He will open his enclosure and run to enclosure 3.
  • 11 of 29: Mangree D is called with a long, low tone (1.5 seconds on left wheel), followed by a long, middle tone (1.5 seconds on center wheel).
  • 12 of 29: Call Mangree B from enclosure 5.  He will run to enclosure 4.
  • 13 of 29: Use a long, high tone (1.5 seconds on the right wheel); followed by a short, medium tone (0.5 seconds on the middle wheel).
  • 14 of 29: Call Mangree C.  He will run from enclosure 2 to enclosure 5.
  • 15 of 29: Use a short medium tone (0.5 seconds on the middle wheel), followed by a short low tone (0.5 seconds on the left wheel).
  • 16 of 29: Call Mangree D.  He will run from enclosure 3 to 2.  (Watch the Camoudile, as the Mangree runs across).
  • 17 of 29: Use a long, low tone (1.5 seconds on left wheel), followed by a long, middle tone (1.5 seconds on center wheel).
  • 18 of 29: Call Mangree B to run from enclosure 4 to 3.
  • 19 of 29: Use a long, high tone; followed by a short, medium tone.
  • 20 of 29: Call Mangree C from enclosure 5 to 4.
  • 21 of 29: Use a short medium tone, followed by a short low tone.
  • 22 of 29: Call Mangree A to leave enclosure 1 and run to enclosure 5.
  • 23 of 29: Mangree A can be called with a short, low tone; followed by a long, high tone.
  • 24 of 29: Finally -- Mangree D can move from enclosure 2 into enclosure 1.
  • 25 of 29: Call him with a long, low tone, followed by a long, middle tone.
  • 26 of 29: Okay, the next move will get the Camoudile into position.  Call Mangree A to run from enclosure 5 to enclosure 2.
  • 27 of 29: Mangree A can be called with a short, low tone; followed by a long, high tone.  Immediately following this move -- SAVE THE GAME!!!  -- it is much, much easier to load a saved game then to move all the Mangrees around again!
  • 28 of 29: The next two moves need to be done close together.  Do not waste any time -- as soon as this call is successfully completed, start the next one.  First, call Mangree C to move from enclosure 4 to enclosure 5, by using the medium tone for 0.5 seconds, then the low tone for 0.5 seconds.
  • 29 of 29: Now, for the fruit throwing call -- a long, high tone, followed by a short, low tone, then finally a short, middle tone.  If you are not fast enough, go back to the game save you just created, and do the last two calls again.
