Myst V: End of Ages Hints

What are these journal pages for, and where can I find them all?

  • 1 of 16: If you read the manual, you may know that these journal entries were left by Yeesha, one of the main "characters" in this story.
  • 2 of 16: Some of the journals -- particularly some of those that you're most likely to find early in the game -- are basically just recaps of earlier Myst games.
  • 3 of 16: But do read each of these carefully (or listen to Yeesha as she reads them to you) if only because there is an occasional hint for a puzzle that you'll need to solve.
  • 4 of 16: Most of the journal pages will be located in fairly obvious locations that you'll come across anyway as you solve the other puzzles, but read ahead if you want to know where each of the pages is located.  Minor spoilers for some of the puzzles may appear below, so you should only read ahead if you're fairly sure you're missing a journal or need it to solve a puzzle.

I also number the journals by the most likely order of discovery.  That's also the order in which the journals will be placed in your "inventory."  That is, number the top row of slots 1-4 from left to right, then the next row 5-8, and 9-12.  Journal #1 will always go in the top-left slot, no matter when you find it yourself, for example.
  • 5 of 16: 1) When you first enter the tunnel from the ladder above, look to the right, near the save game camera.
  • 6 of 16: 2) Farther down the hall to the right from #1.
  • 7 of 16: 3) In the same room as the first linking book (eventually leading to Tahgira) on one of the cots.
  • 8 of 16: 4) At the end of a hallway, through an open doorway in the large circular room you'll enter just before reaching the Great Shaft itself.  (That doorway should already be open when you enter the room -- it's not the same as the door you have to open to find the entrance to the shaft.)
  • 9 of 16: 5) In the same room as the second linking book (eventually leading to Todelmer).
  • 10 of 16: 6) Near the top of the second elevator in the Great Shaft.
  • 11 of 16: 7) At the bottom of the Great Shaft, next to the pedestal with the blue button.  (Down the stairs after you take the final elevator.)
  • 12 of 16: 8) By the machine that turns on the fan, near the linking book to Noloben.
  • 13 of 16: 9) *Underneath* the platform at the bottom of the Great Shaft.
  • 14 of 16: 10) After you turn on the fan at the bottom of the shaft, climb up the ladder that appears and look to one end of the hallway.
  • 15 of 16: 11) In the round room on top of the fan, just before you reach the final linking book.  Look near the one door you cannot open in this room.
  • 16 of 16: 12) On a cot in the same room as the final linking book (the one leading to Laki'ahn).
