Myst V: End of Ages Hints
How can I get my slate onto the roof? I can't climb the ladder with it.
1 of 7: That's correct.
2 of 7: But you'll also notice a pedestal on top of the roof.
3 of 7: If you draw the symbol you see there (two concentric circles with horizontal lines going out on either side) you can get the Bahro to teleport the slate to the roof for you.
4 of 7: Remember that the Bahro can't enter the lab, so it may help to go back out to the beach and leave the slate with that symbol there.
5 of 7: Of course, to keep the roof open, you had to block the ground-level passageway.
6 of 7: So you'll have to use the teleportation symbols on the pedestal to get back outside, but you will keep your slate in your hand as you teleport. Then once you've drawn the roof symbol for the Bahro, teleport back into the lab via the main pedestal, and climb the ladder to retrieve your slate from the pedestal there.
7 of 7: If you're like me, you may have been wondering just what the point of all this security is. That is, either the "front door" through the cliff is open, or the hole at the roof (via the ladder) is -- but exactly one has to be open at any time. I'd personally want some way of shutting both doors. I guess the answer is that even if this is his lab, Esher wasn't in total control over this age -- which is what he said when you met him on the beach -- or at least figured the snake symbols inside the lab were enough to keep the Bahro out.
