The Mystery of the Mummy Hints

How do I open the desk at the far end of the room?

  • 1 of 21: There are several clues within the Laboratory that relate to the opening of the desk.
  • 2 of 21: Initially, it appears that the chair in front of the desk is blocking it.
  • 3 of 21: You will need to move the chair.
  • 4 of 21: The desk appears to require two keys to unlock it.
  • 5 of 21: Listen to Holmes' comments about the significance of opening the locks correctly.
  • 6 of 21: There is only one way to open the locks and avoid being killed.
  • 7 of 21: Note the other "hot spots" on the front of the desk drawer.
  • 8 of 21: It appears that you can control which way the key(s) will turn, when inserted into the lock(s).
  • 9 of 21: But what is the correct direction for each key?  Surely this can't be just trial and error?
  • 10 of 21: Fortunately, there is information in the Laboratory that will provide the answer to that question.
  • 11 of 21: Have you read everything you can find here in the Laboratory?
  • 12 of 21: While standing between the workbench (the table in the middle of the room) and the large bookcases, did you find a note on the table (the note is a rolled up white paper, tied with ribbon)?
  • 13 of 21: The note refers to a "Left" and "Right", associating them with "Clockwise" and "Anti-clockwise".
  • 14 of 21: That defines the direction in which to turn the keys to open the desk safely.
  • 15 of 21: Insert the two keys into the two locks on the desk.  (Note: you may need to try several times to insert the keys -- it often won't work, even if it looks like it should.)
  • 16 of 21: Since the drawer still won't open, there must be something else left to do.
  • 17 of 21: The note you read about this puzzle said to turn the keys together...
  • 18 of 21: ...can you think of a way to do that?
  • 19 of 21: Look at the drawer carefully.
  • 20 of 21: Note the "turn" sign in the middle.
  • 21 of 21: Click on the "turn" sign to see the cut scene of Sherlock opening the drawer.
