  • This isn't the only way to solve this puzzle, and it might not even be the fastest. But it's one that I know works.

    Number the tile spaces 1 to 16, 1 at the top left and 16 at the bottom right, and move them in this order:

    3 -2 - 6 - 5 - 9 - 13 - 14 - 15 - 16 - 12
    8 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 1 - 2 - 6 - 10 - 9 - 13 - 14 - 15 - 16
    12 - 8 - 7 - 6 - 10 - 11 - 12 - 8 - 7 - 6 - 10 - 11 - 12
    8 - 4 - 3 - 7 - 8 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - 5 - 9 - 10 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 12
    16 - 15 - 14 - 10 - 11 - 15 - 16 - 12 - 11 - 10 - 9
