Who's Rube Goldberg?
Rube Goldberg was a famous cartoonist who used to draw cartoons with bizarre contraptions in them. You've seen this kind of thing all over the place in cartoons: a balloon lifts the lid off some cheese so a mouse runs toward it on a treadmill that raises a flag ... and so on. Rube's point was that people always try to find the hardest ways to do things, but people just loved his silly inventions.
