Nancy Drew 18: The Phantom of Venice Hints
How do I get in?
of 14: Did you try the door?
of 14: Blast, it's locked. Now where did I read something about how to jimmy a lock?
of 14: If you didn't already, go to Piazza San Marco and buy a copy of Sassy Detective magazine, then read the article about picking a lock.
of 14: Okay, it says you'll need a couple of bobby pins. Nancy's a tidy sort of person; I bet she has some bobby pins somewhere.
of 14: Did you notice the makeup bag in Nancy's wardrobe back at the Ca' Nascosta?
of 14: Click on the makeup bag at the top right, and then take some bobby pins. (You can't pick up the bobby pins until you've been to Fango's office and rattled the doorknob, though.)
of 14: Come back to Fango's office and use them on the doorknob to get started. Click on the pins to move them. What you're trying to do is make all the lines on the pins line up, like this:
of 14: If you've played other Nancy Drew games, you'll probably recognize one of their favorite type of puzzles here -- click on one pin, and three other pins move. That means you'll need to keep adjusting on pins.
of 14: Unfortunately, I can't tell you exactly what pins to click on here, because every time you do this the puzzle is different. One time the first pin moves only itself; the next time it moves two other pins. But don't panic; it's still solvable. Here's what I generally do.
of 14: 1. Click on every pin once to see what other pins it moves.
of 14: 2. Click on the pin that moves the most other pins (usually three) till it's in the right position.
of 14: 3. Click on the pin that moves the next most pins till it's right.
of 14: 4. Continue on down the line till all the pins are right, and you're in.
of 14: If you just can't get it and you're losing your mind, try back away from the puzzle and starting again. Some configurations are a lot easier to solve than others, and since the puzzle is new every time, you might luck out and get a simpler one the next time.
