Nancy Drew: The Haunting of Castle Malloy Hints
How do I solve the pyramid puzzle?
1 of 5: You may have had one of these games when you were little, though you may not have known what to do with it. The point here is to move all the rings onto the right pole. There are only two rules: you can only move one ring at a time, and you can't place a larger ring on top of a smaller ring. Read to the end of this hint for the exact solution.
2 of 5: The general strategy here is to move the smallest piece, then move the next smallest, then put the smallest one on top of the next smallest. For example, in the junior version, there are five rings; label them A through E, with A on the top. Move A from pole 1 to pole 3, then move B to pole 2; now you can move A to pole 2 on top of B. See?
3 of 5: One way to plot this out is to think of it backwards. Eventually you want E on pole 3, so you'll have to put D on pole 2 -- C on pole 3 -- B on pole 2 -- and thus you need to start by putting A on pole 3.
4 of 5: Here are the exact moves for the two versions of this puzzle.
5 of 5: When you finish this puzzle, you get an electric torch that never runs out of juice. That means you can now explore the castle grounds without being in the dark.
