Nancy Drew: Ransom of the Seven Ships Hints

How do I make the boat go where I want?

  • 1 of 6: If you've actually sailed before, you'll notice that sailing in the game is very similar.  If you haven't, don't worry, it's very easy once you get the hang of it. And to help you out, there's a booklet on sailing in the boat itself, plus it shows on your main screen (at the lower left, where the walkie talkie usually is) while you're actually sailing.
  • 2 of 6: But you don't need to memorize the booklet. All you really need to know is that if you sail directly in the wind, you will slow down and eventually completely stop. Sailing with the wind makes you speed up.
  • 3 of 6: If you do have to sail into the wind, you'll need to move left and right in a zig-zag pattern, called tacking, in order to gain speed while still heading in the direction of the wind. This can make you feel like you're not going where you want to go, but you'll get there eventually.
  • 4 of 6: In the lower left hand corner, you will see a compass. This will help you know in which direction you are heading. Also, the blue arrow shows what way the wind is blowing.
  • 5 of 6: As you're messing about, try to avoid hitting buoys, orcas, crates, and the like; they'll damage your boat. The meter at the top of your screen shows how much damage your boat has taken. If the meter goes all the way down, your boat will sink and you will die (either by drowning or being eaten by sharks, both lovely).
  • 6 of 6: The only things you can safely hit are the bottles.
