Nancy Drew: Ransom of the Seven Ships Hints

What treasure is there to find here?

  • 1 of 14: If you want, there's a lovely bit of treasure to find before you go, but you don't have to bother if you just want to go. (I bet Bess could really use a toilet by now.)
  • 2 of 14: The key to it is in the key you took from the hourglasses back in Blue Hole, and throughout El Toro's journal.
  • 3 of 14: First off, look at page 7 of the journal. The picture here shows the Humilidad hourglass with the key you took from there (if you did). What's that behind the hourglass?
  • 4 of 14: Go to the key panel (to the left of the bed) and look for a keyhole that looks like the one in the drawing. It's one of the red-brown ones, very elaborate and somewhat small.
  • 5 of 14: Put the Humilidad key in that keyhole, and one of the pictures in the room will move, cool! Go look at what's behind that picture.
  • 6 of 14: A button panel with symbols on it. You might think you recognize the symbols, but none of them are ones we have translations for. But there is a clue to the solution both in this room and in El Toro's journal.
  • 7 of 14: Do the decorations in this room look familiar? That's because El Toro drew pictures of many of them in his journal. That bull's head, for example, is on page 6.
  • 8 of 14: Every one of those items has a symbol on or near it, did you notice? Go around the room and draw a picture of the symbol on the five items that are also in the journal.
  • 9 of 14: Now look at the pictures in the journal again. Did you notice that they really don't have anything at all to do with the words they're next to? That tells you that the order of the pictures is important in another way.
  • 10 of 14: Instead, it's telling you the order to press the buttons in the panel behind the picture. That is, first press the symbol on the picture of El Toro, the first picture in the journal, then press the symbol that was on the painting of the bull, and so on.
  • 11 of 14: Still confused? Press the buttons in this order:
  • 12 of 14: The panel swings open to reveal a little box -- a little LOCKED box, doggone it. Okay, well, first things first; it has two keyholes, and you have two keys (the one from the hourglasses and one from the skeleton on the bed). Insert and turn them both.
  • 13 of 14: You can now press the little buttons. Your goal here is to have all the buttons depressed at the same time.
  • 14 of 14: Again, any way you can get this to happen is the right one. Here's the fastest way I've found:
