Nancy Drew 21: Warnings at Waverly Academy Hints
How do I complete this DNA model?
of 9: This is a pretty daunting task at first glance -- no wonder Izzy doesn't want to do it herself -- but there is a logic behind it. Read to the end of this hint for a screenshot of the completed model.
of 9: What you need to do, in broad terms, is assemble the little beads to make a complete ladder. Forget the chemical names. The white beads and the little brown ones go on the outside horizontal lines, and the red, blue, yellow, and black beads go in the middle.
of 9: Each vertical rung of the ladder will be either red-blue or yellow-black. Red and blue beads always go together; yellow and black go together. You don't need to alternate red-blue and yellow-black, and in fact you couldn't if you wanted to. I thought you might, since Izzy says something about alternating sides, but no.
of 9: To get started, take one of the fixed locations and search for any pieces that might match it. For example, in the first slot at the left, we have a white bead (sugar) with a blue bead (guanine) connected to it. That means --
of 9: -- the piece on top has to be a red bead (cytosine) with a white bead attached. Also pay attention to the little red connectors between the beads -- there's no red connector on the top of the blue bead, so you need to look for a red bead with a connector.
of 9: There's only one piece that fits here: red connected to white and a connector. When you find it, left-click to pick it up and right-click to rotate it into the correct position.
of 9: You might find it easier to do all the red-blue pieces first because there are fewer of them. When they're done, move on to the black-yellow pieces.
of 9: When you think you've got it all done right, take it back to Izzy to check. (Nancy says nothing if you get it right, so you have to talk to Izzy to be sure.) If Izzy says no, check the connectors! It's very easy to miss a blank spot where a little red connector bar should be.
of 9: If you absolutely can't get it or you're just losing your mind with all the silly little beads, here's a picture showing how it all goes together:
