Nancy Drew 21: Warnings at Waverly Academy Hints
How do I win at scram?
of 8: Let me repeat the rules, in case you didn't quite catch what Leela said.
of 8: The goal is to get the highest score, while keeping your opponent from getting a high score. You play the game twice in each match, once piling up your own score and once trying to keep Leela from getting a high score.
of 8: The first time through, you're trying to score and Leela is trying to stop you. She goes first; every time she hits a number, that means you can't use it to score. So if she hits the 20, the 19, and the 3, you can still throw the darts into those numbers, but your score will be zero.
of 8: Leela will go for the highest numbers first, and so should you. Aim for the highest numbers that haven't been blocked -- if you don't remember, look at the display on the right. The lit numbers are available; the dark ones have been blocked.
of 8: You might think you should aim for the bullseye first; it's 50 in the black center and 25 in the red rim. But if you're good at hitting the right spots, you can get much higher scores by hitting the tiny little ring in the middle of each pie slice, triple the number. So if you hit the special spot of the 20, for example, you get 60 points. Wow!
of 8: After Leela has blocked all the numbers, you switch places and you now get to block her. Do what she did -- block the highest numbers first so she doesn't have a chance to rack up the numbers.
of 8: Throwing the darts is a pill, since they move constantly while you aim. I don't think this is really because Nancy's so wobbly; it's just Her Interactive's way of trying to duplicate the difficulty of playing darts in real life. Just take it slow and don't release the dart till it's in the right spot.
of 8: Oddly, it's a little easier to win in the senior version. Sure, the darts wobble even worse, making it harder to hit the number you want -- but so do Leela's darts, with the result that she hardly ever hits the right spots and rarely scores over 280. I got a score over 750 in senior detective that way once, and you better believe I gloated about it too.
