Nancy Drew 22: Trail of the Twister Hints
How do I do the filing?
of 11: The filing cabinet is in the dining room in the far right corner; look for a small dark gray box with a note taped to it and a bunch of manila folders on top.
of 11: The first thing you need to do is organize the tabs, which are at the right, into the correct folders. They're not alphabetical, as they would be in the real world; no, they need to be put in whatever bizarre order Debbie has going in her head, as half-described in the note on the filing cabinet. Read to the end of this hint for the specific order.
of 11: This is essentially a logic problem. What you need to do is use the list of rules given about the way the different tabs are related and try different combinations till you find one that satisfies all the rules.
of 11: For example, in the junior puzzle, it says that the Findings tab (two triangles) is immediately next to the Grange Theater tab (big black circle); another rule is that the Canute tab (two brackets) is next to the Grange tab. That tells you that the Grange tab will be in between the Findings tab and the Canute tab, though you still don't know what order they're in. It also tells you the Grange tab isn't in the first or the last spot, since it's surrounded by those other two tabs.
of 11: You can draw a similar conclusion about the Degree tab (three dots). If it's to the left of the Animals tab (S with an arrow), and the Grange tab is to the left of the Degree tab, the Degree tab also can't be in the first or last spot. And you can also say that the Degree tab is at least two from the right, since it's left of the Grange tab, which isn't in the last spot. See how it works?
of 11: This whole puzzle is a lot easier if you have physical things you can move around. You might try making up six Post-Its and moving them around on a table to see how they fit together.
of 11: When you think you've got the right order, pick up the file labels at the right and put them into the clear tab sleeves in the filing drawer. When you get it right, Nancy will say, "Alright! Got it!" Here is the order they should be in:
of 11: Once you have the tabs in the right spots, it's time to do the actual filing. That's the manila folders on top of the filing cabinet.
of 11: Without backing away from the filing cabinet, look at the top manila folder. On the bottom right corner of the folder, you can see a faint mark that looks a little like a K.
of 11: It's the same symbol Debbie was using to indicate Budget, so put that folder in the Budget section. To do this, click on the folder, and then click on the Budget tab. Nancy won't let you put folders in the wrong sections, which is good of her.
of 11: Continue through the pile of folders like this. When the folders are gone, you're done. Now aren't you glad you're not a file clerk?
