Nancy Drew 22: Trail of the Twister Hints
How do I fill in this F-Scale display?
of 11: Pa will ask you to arrange this display in exchange for the mouse trap. This is part logic and part research. Read to the end of this hint for the exact order you need to put all the numbers in.
of 11: You can get some sketchy information about the F scale in the Twister Trivia test, under "Tornado Measures."
of 11: It says that the F-Scale runs from F0 (45-78 mph gusts with broken tree limbs) to F5 (262-317 mph gusts with houses removed from foundations). It also says that an EF2 causes destruction of mobile homes.
of 11: You can also get a complete rundown of the EF-scale numbers from the map on the wall in Scott's office; it goes from EF0, 65-85 mph, to EF5, 201+ mph.
of 11: And that's all you really need to know. Go to the F-Scale display in Pa's museum and let's see what we can do with that info.
of 11: Let's start with the pictures, which go in the Damage Indicator column. As you read in the quiz, the tree being rattled is the least amount of damage (F0), the house being ripped off its foundation is the worst (F5), and the mobile home being destroyed is EF2. Fill in the others by the amount of damage being done.
of 11: Now for the numbers. You know the entire EF scale, so put those numbers in place.
of 11: For the F scale, you know the beginning and end of the gusts; that's the third column, the one labeled "3-second gust speed." Put 45-78 in the first spot there. What comes next?
of 11: It's got to be the one that starts where the last range left off -- 79-117.
of 11: Continue on in this column, ending with 262-317. Now you can put all the numbers that remain in the empty column.
of 11: Still confused? Here's what the final should look like:
