Nancy Drew 23: Shadow at the Water's Edge Hints

How do I solve the nonograms?

  • 1 of 5: You'll find complete instructions on how to solve these puzzles in the game, in the puzzle book Rentaro gives you. Here are some strategies I find helpful:
  • 2 of 5: -- Look first for any lines that go all the way across -- 10 in a 10x10 puzzle, for example -- and fill them in.
  • 3 of 5: -- Next, look for lines that will fill the whole line when you include the spaces. For example, if a line in a 10x10 puzzle is 7, 2, that will be 7 spaces filled in, 1 left blank, and 2 filled in, so that's the 10 spaces accounted for.
  • 4 of 5: -- Look for lines where one end is definite, like against one of the outside edges or against an X. If one line is 6, 1, and the first space has already been filled in by a line going the other way, you can fill in the first six spaces and put an X at the end.
  • 5 of 5: -- If you fill in the entire puzzle and Nancy doesn't tell you it's right and take away the Xs, it means there's at least one square that's wrong. Double-check every column to make sure you've got the right number of squares filled in. When you find a line where the numbers are wrong, check the rows to see which of them is wrong. This will help you nail down the mistake.
