Nancy Drew 23: Shadow at the Water's Edge Hints
How do I use the subway?
of 13: First, realize that there's not much point in using the train on day 1, since Nancy can't do anything at any of the stops until she has a reason to go there. So don't even bother until you get to day 2.
of 13: Once you get to the train station with FASCA card in hand --
of 13: -- the next trick is to figure out how to get to where you want to go. Click on the map on the wall at left to get a look at the subway system; the ryokan is at Misawa, upper left corner.
of 13: Oh, phooey -- it looks like a bunch of multicolored snakes fighting, doesn't it? Well, don't panic, we'll figure it out. (And if you can't, read on and I'll tell you the exact stops to take to get to all the places you need to go.)
of 13: The first step is to find the station you want on that map. Let's start with Matsue, where the expo is being held.
of 13: Matsue is on the very bottom of the map at the left, and it's on the dark brown line. Misawa is on the royal blue line.
of 13: Now look for a way to get from the one location to the other. Trace your way down the royal blue line until it comes to an intersection with another line, then trace that line to see if it goes anywhere near the dark brown line.
of 13: Notice that not all lines that cross are actually joined; they only join when you see a circle with both colors. That means your first route might not work.
of 13: For example, the royal blue line has its first intersection at Tochigi, where it crosses pink, silver, and light brown lines. However, the circle here only shows silver, pink, and blue, so there's no connection with the light brown line.
of 13: When you think you have a viable route, leave the map and look up at the sign showing possible connections from the Misawa station and click on the first station in the line, Nagoya, to go there.
of 13: When the train stops, click on the next station in the route you chose. If you get lost, click on the map in the station to figure out where you went wrong.
of 13: When you reach your location, move the mouse toward the bottom of the screen till you get a downward arrow, then click to leave the train station and enter that location. From now on, this station will appear on the sign so you can come straight here with one click from any of the other established train stations.
of 13: If you're looking for directions to a specific location, here they are:
