Nancy Drew 24: The Captive Curse Hints
How do I translate the messages?
of 9: The basic process is to turn the three wheels to the correct three letters, then type in the coded message. If you set the wheels right and typed in the message perfectly, you'll get a clear English sentence out of it.
of 9: So the first step is to figure out what three letters each message wants. Do you remember what Nancy said when she saw the first message?
of 9: She said that the pictures (at the top of the page) might help her figure out how to crack the code. So we need letters associated with those three pictures.
of 9: However, it's not quite that simple. For example, the cipher you found in the gift shop had a star, a moon, and a comet on top; but if you set the wheels to S, M, and C, you get gibberish. But do you remember where else you've seen a star, a moon, and a comet?
of 9: If you read the castle newspaper in the banquet room, you saw a little column translating selected German words, and those three were in there. Check your journal to find this information.
of 9: The German word for star is der Stern, moon is der Mond, and comet is der Komet. So the three letters you want for this cipher are S, M, K.
of 9: Once you've got the wheels set, very carefully type the letters on the cipher message. You can either click on the keyboard on the screen or use your actual physical keyboard on your computer, whichever you want. Don't bother with the punctuation or spaces; just do the letters.
of 9: If you do it accurately, when you get to the end, Nancy will read it out loud and you can click on it to put it in your inventory. If you make a mistake, click on the tape to take it out and start over.
of 9: For the second and third ciphers, you'll need to find and read the two newspapers in the well maze.
