Nancy Drew 24: The Captive Curse Hints
How do I release the abductee?
of 13: This is a time-limited situation, because if you don't get the door open within a couple of minutes, the culprit will come and knock you out. Save before you start! And read to the end of this hint for step-by-step instructions on unlocking the cell door.
of 13: The bar at the left is held in place by a sort of hook on its bottom, and once you move that hook, it will start moving slowly to the right. If it hits one of the little knobs in the middle, it'll move back left and you'll have to start over again.
of 13: So you need to find a way to move the knobs out of the way, which you can do with the four large buttons at the bottom. Push a button or two to see what they do.
of 13: Well, fooey; they don't have any particular rhyme or reason in what knobs they move. That is, they always move the same knobs, but there's no easily-grasped pattern to those knobs. And there's no way to clear all the knobs at the same time.
of 13: That means you're going to have to move the knobs out of the first column or two, then start the bar moving, then push more buttons to get rid of the knobs in the next column.
of 13: And as slowly as the bar moves, there really isn't that much room between them, so you don't have that much room for error. Feh!
of 13: Fed to the teeth with the whole thing? There are other ways to do this, but here's how I did it.
of 13: Number the buttons 1, 2, 3, 4, and the columns of knobs A, B, C, D, E, F.
of 13: Push buttons 3 and 4 to clear columns A and B, then release the hook and hold your breath.
of 13: When the bar passes B, push button 2.
of 13: When the bar passes C, push button 1.
of 13: When the bar passes E, push button 2.
of 13: When the bar passes F, push button 2 and then 3 very quickly. And breathe again, because you're done.
