Nancy Drew 24: The Captive Curse Hints
How do I do what Dad's note says?
of 14: Dad's note said to play the glockenspiel. Huh? Read to the end of this hint for a picture showing how to do this.
of 14: A glockenspiel is a musical instrument like a small xylophone. There's one in the foyer, in a cupboard underneath the clock in the far left corner of the room (across from the door to the gift shop).
of 14: Playing it is a matter of picking up the little mallet and hitting the metal bars to make them ring. But to get into the security booth, you need to know what notes to play and in what order.
of 14: That's where the list at the bottom of Dad's note comes into play. Each of the places he lists has a large capital letter written on or near it, and those are the notes you need to play. When you go to those places after you solve Dad's note, Nancy will comment on the notes and write them in her journal.
of 14: The first one is "Upstairs portrait of the young lady." That's the painting of the Freiherr's daughter just outside Nancy's room, and the note is G.
of 14: The "Florist initial" is the door in the courtyard where the fire was.
of 14: The "Hallway bookstand" is the end table in the hall across from Karl's office with a book on it.
of 14: The "Castle gate's bell" is the doorbell outside the castle where you started the game.
of 14: Finally, the "Glass furnace" is inside the furnace in the glass room. Once you've been to all those places, you know that the notes you need are --
of 14: -- GDBGA. Now all you need to know is where those notes are on a glockenspiel (sigh).
of 14: There's some help for you in this out in the courtyard. Go to the double doors that are down some steps, then turn around to see a piece of paper on the steps.
of 14: But that's not a whole ton of help, because the person who took the test (Lukas, maybe?) didn't get all the questions right, and all the keys aren't labeled. If you play the piano, though, you will have gathered that the keys are laid out like a piano keyboard, with the top row representing the black keys. Shazaam!
of 14: Not shazaam? Okay; not everyone plays the piano. Here's a screenshot showing which keys to hit. (But this won't work until you've translated Dad's note and gone to all the locations where the notes are.)
of 14: Once you've played the notes in the right order, a little button will pop up in the paneling to the left of the glockenspiel. From now on, you just have to click on that button and the door to the security booth will open.
