Nancy Drew 24: The Captive Curse Hints

How do I get the cameras working again?

  • 1 of 11: There's a pamphlet here titled "Power Up System Sequence for CCTVs" (on the left side of the console next to the phone), and though it tells you everything, it's rather hard to read. Read to the end of this hint for a step-by-step solution.
  • 2 of 11: First we need to get the console turned on. See that three-pronged outlet in the center panel of the console?
  • 3 of 11: If you didn't already, go back out to the foyer and pick up the three-pronged switch on the coffee table next to the book called "Beyond the Tales: The Brothers Grimm." Put that switch in the outlet and turn it to "On," then open the panel to see the camera works.
  • 4 of 11: Each light represents a camera. To be turned on, the light has to be solid green. As you can see on the panel at the left, each light goes through five steps from dark to completely working. If it's dark, click on it once and it will be at step 2; click again and it's step 3, and so on.
  • 5 of 11: If you click on a light that's already at the highest step, it will send a charge along all the lines connected to it. This means one click can affect a large number of lights.
  • 6 of 11: So, for example, if you're a Junior detective and you click on the 1 button, you'll change light 1 from step 2 to step 3 and nothing else will happen. But if you click on the 10 button, it will go from step 4 to step 5, send a charge to light 9 and change it to step 5, and it will send charges to all the lights it's connected to, and so on.
  • 7 of 11: The problem is that you have a limited number of times you can click to send a charge through the system; Juniors have five, Seniors only have two. So you have to plan your clicks carefully.
  • 8 of 11: On the other hand, there's no limit to the number of times you can play with the entire board. Try clicking around (on the buttons on the left, not on the lights themselves) and see what you come up with.
  • 9 of 11: There are lots of ways to do this, but here's what worked for me:
  • 10 of 11: Once you have the cameras working again, look up at the monitors to see what's going on around the castle. Push the letter buttons under each monitor to see different scenes.
  • 11 of 11: Nancy will often talk about the things she sees, even though you may not see them if you don't have the monitors set to the right cameras. Just listen to what she says and act accordingly.
