How do I open Detective Ryan's "thing"?
1 of 5: If you click on one of the little brown buttons on top of one of the pistons, you'll see that it makes several of the pistons retract. You'll need to make all the pistons retract at the same time to get at the key. Read to the end of this hint for the exact steps.
2 of 5: This is actually one of the more logical of these kinds of puzzles because each button retracts pistons in the same pattern. That is, in the junior game, a button always affects the piston it's on, the one directly opposite, and the pistons on both sides of itself.
3 of 5: Pressing a button when pistons are already retracted pops them back out again. Using those two bits of information, you can see that what you need to do here is maneuver the pistons so the ones that are out --
4 of 5: -- are in the pattern that one button will retract. That is, you want to have three pistons in a row and the piston on the opposite side all out. Then you can press the button in the middle of the three to retract them all at once. See?
