    -- Read the "Arson Investigation" book at the police station
    -- Look closely at the gas chromatograph machine in the Forensics Department at the police station
    -- Read the book in Nancy's room titled "On the Case"

    I'm not sure how much of this is necessary, but if Nancy won't ask the right questions, try them all.
