Nancy Drew 26: Tomb of the Lost Queen Hints
How do I solve this panel with the disks?
of 22: This panel in tunnel 3 opens when you solve the scarab puzzle.
of 22: You may already have four disks in your inventory; they'd fit just perfectly in those four round spots. (If you don't have them, go back into the burial chamber and open that box in corner, on the right as you enter the room.)
of 22: So now you have four disks with pictures on them sitting in four round slots in the wall -- but which disk goes in which slot? You need a little help here. Read to the end of this hint for explicit directions on which disk goes where and what to do next.
of 22: The coded hieroglyphic in this room tells you which disks go where, and it was probably the first one you decoded. If you don't remember what it said, look in your "Glyphs" book in inventory.
of 22: So how do you know which disk is which of Horus's sons, and which goes where? You need another reference as well: the "Relic" book you picked up in the antiquities tent. You should also call Professor Hotchkiss, for some further info.
of 22: Some of these are quite obvious. Imsety, Protector of the South, is called "Imsety the human" by the Relic book; so put the disk with the man in the bottom, or south, slot.
of 22: You now know that Duamatef is the jackal and Hapy is the baboon, so by elimination Qebehnesenuef must be the falcon, and that's lovely to know, but it doesn't really help you. Let's go back to that coded passage.
of 22: "The cry that soars toward the setting sun" has to be the falcon; nothing else in this group soars or is facing west. Put the falcon in the west or left slot.
of 22: "The hunter who faces to greet the new day" must therefore be the jackal facing east. Put him in the right slot.
of 22: And that puts the baboon in the top; he's "the air that sweeps up the Nile" because he represents lungs, if you recall.
of 22: So they're all in the right place now, but so what? Well, have you tried twisting them in their slots?
of 22: Something massive just happened back in the main room. Go back out there to see what it was.
of 22: Good grief, the four huge columns on the left side of the room just changed heights! And that's very helpful, because --
of 22: -- at the far right of the room, at the top of the right column, is a doorway to a room you can't reach. But if you could arrange the columns like steps, maybe you could climb them. Marvy!
of 22: Go back to the disk panel in tunnel 3 and let's play around with the disks. The columns start out at levels 3, 3, 4, and 3, left to right, and you want them to be 2, 3, 4, and 5. So which disks move which columns?
of 22: A little experimentation shows you that the baboon moves the two middle columns, the jackal moves the two outside columns, the human moves just the last column, and the hawk moves the first and third columns. So since you only need to move the first and last column --
of 22: -- you can do this by moving just the jackal and the human. First, let's adjust the first column.
of 22: Turning the jackal once changes the first column from level 3 to level 4; moving it twice more moves it to level 5 and then down to level 2. Perfect!
of 22: Now you just need to adjust the last column, which is also at level 2 now. Turning the man three times moves the column to level 5 --
of 22: -- and Nancy says, "Got it!" to let you know you're done here. (The man should be facing down, the jackal facing up, and the baboon and hawk facing left.)
of 22: Didn't work or terminally confused? Here's the whole process:
of 22: Now go back to the main room, climb up the scaffolding next to Abdullah, then turn around and click on the arrow on the left side of the screen to watch Nancy leap across the columns like Lara Croft used to do in the old Tomb Raider games.
