Nancy Drew 26: Tomb of the Lost Queen Hints
How do I solve the scale puzzle?
1 of 7: Under the cat coffin, there's a small scale and a whole bunch of little figurines (I think they're mice). What are we supposed to do with this stuff?
2 of 7: First, decode the coded hieroglyphics under the scale puzzle.
3 of 7: This passage is a little confusing -- the Hall of Two Truths? -- but since it has to do with a scale, it seems likely that in order to "open the threshold" we need to find out which of the little figures is the lightest one, then put that light mouse into the hole between the scale's pans.
4 of 7: This would be a snap if we could weigh the mice one at a time until we found the light one -- but we only get to use the scale three times, and there are a lot more mice than three, and if you pick the wrong mouse Bad Things will happen. So we need to think of a way to find the light mouse in only three tries.
5 of 7: This is really not as hard as it sounds. All the other mice weigh exactly the same, so if you put an equal number of mice in each pan, they should weigh the same. If they don't, it means the lighter mouse is on the lighter side of the scale. See?
6 of 7: The process will be slightly different for amateurs and masters because they have a different number of cats to get through.
7 of 7: When you think you've found the light mouse, put it in the hole between the scale pans. If you got it right, voila! And if not, there's always second chance.
